Hiking In Maine

Pleasant Pond Mountain

DirectionsThis is Pleasant Pond Mountain trailhead. Not much of a sign to mark the beginning. We are starting on the Caratunk side. The Appalachian Trail passes through here and climbing the mountain in this direction the AT would be headed north towards Katahdin.

The trail to the top is quite short but it is steep all the way.

The trail is well marked and easy to follow. It passes mostly through spruce and fir trees.

Of course we have to have a picnic lunch on the ledges while enjoying the views. That's the best part of the hike.

The ledges are a great place for picking blueberries. Connie emerges from the underbrush with her supply.

Linda and Joyce are in there somewhere picking their share.

We made it to the peak. Connie, Joyce and Linda
pose for a picture with the Appalachian Trail sign.

There are fantastic views in all directions if you move around some. Here is Mosquito Mountain with parts of Moxie Pond to the right. The pitch was oozing right out of the cones on this spruce tree.

Another view of the long, narrow Moxie Pond

Connie on a high point with expansive views in the background.

Joyce and Linda are wandering around on the top.

And yes, I made it up there also!

Another nice view of Moxie Pond with Moxie Bald Mountain in the background. The Appalachian Trail continues over Moxie Bald.

We hate to go but we are headed back down as Joyce and Linda pick their way down over the rocks and roots.

We ended the hike with a visit to Pleasant Pond. It was a great hike and we added this one to our revisit list.
